EVO (Extra Virgin Oven) Pizza in Park Circle

Last week my husband and I took the boys out for pizza.  We’ve been to EVO numerous times before – and the thing that always brings us back is the passion this restaurant has for supporting local businesses and farms, and the emphasis they place on preparing foods that are fresh, seasonal and unique (not to mention great-tasting)!  I mean, there’s not many family friendly pizzerias in the Lowcountry that offer dishes like green tomato and eggplant soup, local figs drizzled with chimichurri and topped with parmesan-reggiano, or wood-fired stuffed peppers with farro.

What I also appreciate about EVO is that they offer an array of craft beers, decent wine list, and great root beer (my family’s favorite is Sprecher and it’s not easily found at local restaurants).  The setting is laid back (with local art covering the walls), servers knowledgeable but not annoying, and the prices aren’t too bad on the wallet.  Plus its in the artsy and vibrant Park Circle in North Charleston.

Now if you’re looking for low-fat, low-cal dishes, this is not the place to go (most pizzerias aren’t).  But in my professional opinion as a dietitian, this food fits into any healthy lifestyle.  The focus to me is that they offer seasonal, local, FRESHLY PREPARED foods and that gets many brownie points for me towards good health.  Just take some of the food home as leftovers so you don’t over do it :)

Here are a few unprofessional pics from my iPhone of what we ordered:

Specials menu sample

MMM unsweetened iced tea! In a mason jar of course

TWO of our family’s favorites. For me, Bell’s beer – Oberon being my fav. Bell’s hails from Kalamazoo, MI where my husband and I lived for 5 years; and for the kiddos (in strict moderation in our house) Sprecher root beer.

Appetizer special: local figs drizzled with chimichurri and topped with parmesan-reggiano. A-mazing! My four-year old ate 75% of it!

Poor quality pic of my pizza – the special for the night: local sungold tomato and heirloom eggplant pizza with pesto and split goat feta. Delicious!

Our dinner was delicious!  If you haven’t been to EVO you must give it a try.  Plan on waiting for a table if you get there after 6 p.m.  We had to wait about 30 minutes but it’s totally worth it.  Their tables turn pretty quickly and I have never in my life seen an empty table in this place!

My only request to EVO: bring back your marinated OLIVES!!!

Here is a sampling of the local farms EVO supports:

Geechie Boy Farm

Split Creek Farm

Ambrose Farms

Compost in My Shoe

  1. Thank you! I love Evo and haven’t been there in forever! Years ago when I catered healthy organic lunches for a small Montessori school, we had EVO come with their pizza truck and make us pizza on Fridays! It was great and the children loved it. I will be sure to go have one of their excellent pizzas soon.
